
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23
(By Delegates Caputo, Wright, Kuhn, Prunty, Tucker,
Butcher, Dempsey, Sparks, Yeager, Wills, Boggs, Mahan, Hunt,
Hines and Flanigan)
Requesting the West Virginia congressional delegation to support
efforts to preserve Amtrak service in this State and to extend
Amtrak service to those regions in our State which are without
service.
Whereas, A rail passenger transportation system is an important
component in meeting the transportation needs of our State; and
Whereas, There are rural areas of our State which are without
adequate public transportation service of any kind; and
Whereas, Amtrak has already been forced to significantly cut
back its rail passenger system due to cash shortages; and
Whereas, Additional capital investment is needed to provide the
services that are essential to satisfy the demand for rail
passenger service to all Americans and, particularly, to those in
rural areas such as West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That our congressional delegation support efforts to preserve
Amtrak service in this State and to extend Amtrak to those regions in our State which are without service; and that increased federal
funds be provided to meet Amtrak's current needs and to enable
expansion of rail passenger service; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to all members
of Congress from West Virginia and to Amtrak.
